We are hiring a Sales Development Engineer: a hybrid technical storyteller who turns customer pain into pipeline, insight, and impact.
This role is for someone who speaks both data and human: comfortable running discovery, crafting outbound that resonates, and building lightweight demos inside Mage that make prospects say, "wait... show me more."
You will work directly with the founders to shape early GTM motions, qualify inbound from the open-source community, run targeted outbound into high-value data and AI accounts, and create technical proof points that show what is possible with Mage.

What you'll do
- Bridge discovery to demo to opportunity: run technical discovery with data teams, understand current workflows, and translate problems into Mage-native solutions.
- Create technical proof points that open deals: build mini-demos, example pipelines, and lightweight POCs that make value real for prospects.
- Own first-touch technical credibility: handle inbound qualification, ask sharp questions, and quickly determine whether the prospect is a fit for Mage.
- Run targeted outbound into high-signal accounts with personalized outreach informed by data engineering patterns, cloud stacks, and AI workflows.
- Collaborate with founders, product, and engineering to surface customer insights, gaps, and repeated friction points that shape roadmap and GTM strategy.
- Build reusable demo templates, vertical playbooks, objection handling guides, and solution patterns for future GTM hires.

- Comfortable with data and cloud tooling: pipelines, APIs, SQL, orchestration, and modern data infrastructure.
- A natural explainer who can break down complex systems into simple narratives for engineers and executives.
- Curious and investigative; you ask sharp questions, probe for pain, and map workflows to uncover where value hides.
- Hands-on and scrappy; you can build a quick demo, mock a dataset, spin up a pipeline, or tweak a workflow.
